Griptape
The Skateboarder's Answer to Sex Wax

Grip Tape

Griptape looks and feels like sandpaper. It has a very sticky glue on the back so it sticks firmly to the deck of your skateboard.

Surfers use sex wax to stop them slipping off their boards and skaters use self-adhesive sandpaper.

It comes in many different colours so it can be artistic as well as functional.

A lot of skaters like to carve patterns into it. This gives the board their own individual stamp.

Remember though, while it's fun to play around making it look good, its primary function is one of safety.

Always make sure it covers the entire area of the board where you will be placing your feet.

If it starts to feel a bit smooth, or if your feet slide on the board, it's time to replace it.

New tape can sometimes be a little too rough. This can make it harder for you to move your feet into the right positions.

If your tape is a bit too grippy just take a spare piece of tape and gently rub it a few times over the surface your board. This will smooth it off a bit.

Just don't smooth it off too much or you'll be replacing it again.
