Skateboard Maintenance - Be
Safe, Keep Your Board in Good Condition
Skateboard maintenance is key to safe
skating. If your board is poorly maintained it's an accident
waiting to happen. Check your skateboard regularly for pressure
cracks, wheel damage, parts which may have worked loose and
general wear and tear.
A skateboard
tool will be useful for your maintenance sessions.
If you won't be using your board for a while check it over
before you store the board.
Always store your board somewhere cool and dry. In warm or
humid conditions it could warp or absorb moisture and become
heavy and "clunky".
So, what can go wrong on a skateboard and how do you keep it
maintained?
The deck of
your skateboard is the bit you actually stand on. It can
take a lot of strain especially when you first begin to
learn tricks. What to check for on skateboarding
decks.
The trucks not only connect your wheels to
your deck, they also determine how your skateboard steers. Keep
your trucks properly adjusted to optimise your
ride.
Skateboard
wheels will eventually wear down or get damaged. It's a
good idea to examine your wheels regularly.
Skateboard
bushings are constantly exposed to stresses and strains
while the board is being ridden. Check and change bushings
regularly.
Skateboard bearings should be well cared for
for a smooth and fast ride. Look after your skateboard
bearings.
Skateboard
griptape is often overlooked when checking the board.
Always replace worn griptape.
