Skateboard Safety Gear
Make Sure it Fits and Make Sure You Wear It!
Skateboard safety gear is always going to be an
important part of your skating kit, but as a beginner it's
essential..
Falls are a natural part of leaning to skate but wearing the
right protection can minimise the potential for injury.
Always make sure your kit fits you correctly. If you can, go
and get your first set fitted properly at a skate shop. Money
invested in keeping yourself in one piece is money well
spent.
If you have a heavy fall and your stuff gets damaged replace
it immediately. Also, if you're still growing, make sure you go
a size up when ever you need to.
Ill fitting helmets and pads will not protect you properly
and it may restrict your movement and actually cause you to
fall.
Your kit should include your skateboard helmet, your pads
and your shoes. Our skateboard
safety section covers each item in detail.
A Note on Peer Pressure Some young skaters don't wear safety gear
because their mates think it's not cool. Never mind what
they say, spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair
is not cool either.
Stick to your guns, wear your safety gear.
You'll suffer fewer injuries than your non pad-wearing
friends and therefore have more skating time.
Concentrate on being the best skater you can be and you'll
be admired for your abilities and not mocked for what you
wear.
